Jon Krakauer relates to Chris McCandless yet again in this section when we see his adventrous side to wanting to climb Devils Thumb. Krakauer, like Chris, wants to do something that people doubt their abilitys to do. They want to seek an adventure out in nature that will test their limitations as to how far and how much they can take. They also relate because they both have fathers that want a lot from them, but they both seek different goals than their parents. Both fathers want them to have high paying professional jobs, but neither of them want that they want to enjoy nature. They feel that by climbing a mountain or going out into the wild alone is like fulfilling their father's dream in their own way because their father's want them to be succesful in life with a high paying job to have a set future which is their dream for them, but Chris and Krakauer's dreams are to be free and do something they want to do and enjoy.
